Who We Are

A Family Tradition Born in 1989

Green Lantern Pizza was founded in 1989 by Tony and Maria Castellano, two Italian-American immigrants with a dream: to bring the authentic flavors of Naples to the heart of Michigan. Starting with a single wood-fired oven and a handful of family recipes passed down through generations, they built something far greater than a pizzeria — they built a community gathering place.

Today, the Castellano family continues to honor those roots. Every pizza we craft uses the same time-honored techniques: hand-stretched dough fermented for 48 hours, San Marzano tomato sauce slow-simmered with fresh herbs, and premium ingredients sourced from trusted local and regional suppliers.

What began as a modest storefront on Hayes Road has grown into a beloved local institution — with thousands of loyal customers who have made Green Lantern Pizza a weekly ritual for their families, just as their parents did before them.

1989

The Beginning

Tony and Maria Castellano open the very first Green Lantern Pizza at 41160 Hayes Rd with a single wood-fired oven and Maria's legendary Neapolitan dough recipe.

1994

Community Recognition

Green Lantern Pizza wins "Best Pizza in Macomb County" for the first time — launching a run of local awards that would continue for decades.

2001

Expansion & New Kitchen

A major renovation doubles our kitchen capacity and introduces our signature catering service — bringing Green Lantern flavors to weddings, parties, and corporate events across Michigan.

2008

Second Generation Steps In

Tony and Maria's son, Marco Castellano, joins the business full-time, bringing culinary school training and fresh ideas while preserving the core of what makes Green Lantern special.

2015

Online Ordering Launch

Green Lantern Pizza enters the digital age with our online ordering platform — making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy their favorite pies from home.

2024

35th Anniversary Celebration
